UK Power Networks has partnered with Falco Construction to trial zero-emission e-diggers that have the potential to remove more than 200 tonnes of CO2e from the atmosphere.
Both companies are working together trialing the brand-new excavators on underground assets in the on the electricity network, and the results have been promising.
The Takeuchi TB20e boasts some incredible environmental benefits removing CO2e, NOX and particulates (PM.25), creating a cleaner and greener environment.
A successful trial will see Falco’s fleet of 120 diesel diggers replaced with their fully-electric counterparts.
In addition to the environmental benefits, the e-digger is 13 decibels – or 75% quieter than the diesel version and without fumes.
The diggers will now be used across UK Power Networks’ network areas in London, the South East, and the East, delivering electricity to 8.5 million homes and businesses.
Operatives reported that the vehicle’s charge could last three to five days on the job, without a loss of power and has improved their wellbeing and safety.
The trial has put to bed any concerns over “range anxiety,” power issues and handling after everyday use from the operators.
Both UK Power Networks and Falco have aligned with their ambitions for Net Zero, creating a cleaner, greener and quieter future for all.
Positive feedback on the trial from the Greater London Authority has cemented the trial as a way forward for construction and utility works in the capital and beyond.
